    Description

    This alloy was prepared from Clip On Wheel weights (COWWs), Type Metal and Pewter source metals.
    Source Metals Preparation:
    ·
    The COWWs were hand sorted to remove all zinc weights, trash and melted to remove steel clips.  The molten COWW metal was fluxed and cleaned a sample taken and XRF analyzed.

    The Type metals were melted, fluxed, cleaned sampled and XRF analyzed.

    The Pewter was melted, fluxed, cleaned sample and XRF analyzed.

    Based on the analyses of each of these source metals the required amount of each metal was weighed and combined into a single lots for melting. Each lot was melted fluxed and cast into the ingots shown in the photos.

    The target analysis was 90% Pb, 5% Sb and 5 % Sn. (Lyman No. 2 Alloy)
    I have used this alloy extensively in casting and have found it produces high quality castings with a BHN of 15.
