Mechanicsburg Indiana (1863) eagle fancy cancel ties three cent 1861 issue with Civil War letter dated January 27, 1863.
Provenance to Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc. Sale 771 (12/12-14/95), Lot 1050 as part of "A New Find of the Rare Mechanicsburg, Indiana Eagle Cancellation" realized 00 plus a 10% buyer's premium.  Long lot description including "one of the great fancy postmarks, and possibly unique as a cancelling device".

Extraordinarily rare Civil War era fancy cancel.
Readable family letter content from images (one letter sheet, 2 pages).
Full cover with edge and corner wear.  Small clean opening tears at top edge from opening.  Small clean tear at lower left just the right of the 1861 stamp just into fancy cancel.  Small stamp faults with a few ink marks which appear to be contemporaneous with the era of the cover.  Please see images with this listing.
