    American CIVIL WAR Prisoner of War 1864 Flag of Truce Cover from JOHNSON'S ISLAND with a cds RICHMOND, VA JUL 27 '64.  JOHNSON'S ISLAND is located on Lake Erie offshore from the City of Sandusky, Ohio.
    Manuscript marking in black ink "For Flag Truce Via Fortress Monroe, City Point, Va." Black hand stamp DUE 10 Confederate rate. Pencil marking Due. Note on reverse "FROM SANDUSKY, O."
    Outgoing cover to the South addressed to Mrs. Louisa Y. Jones. Care of Dr. Robert H. Young, Penfield, Georgia". From T. F. Jones, Capt. 16th Ga. Batt.
    Manuscript examined in ink marking "Ex DSA" identifies the Examiner as DeAlva S. Alexander. Mr. Alexander was in service on Johnson's Island from September 14, 1863  thru November 17, 1864.
    CONDITION: Very good. Clear postmark. Neatly addressed. Opened roughly at the flap.
