JOHNSON'S ISLAND is located on Lake Erie offshore from the City of Sandusky, Ohio.
Examined marking is one of Type I of the Oval Handstamps of PRISONER'S LETTER ~ EXAMINED ~ JOHNSON'S ISLAND with replaceable initials J. J. which identifies the Examiner as J. Jordan. Mr. Jordan was in service March 20, 1865 thru March 22, 1865. J. J. was used for only 3 days in 1865. Quite scarce Examiner. .
CONDITION: Excellent. Neatly cut opened at the top. Bold examiner marking. Light dcds. Very clean and intact. Very attractive high quality cover.
