Vintage Amber Stone Disk --- Monk w/Shaolin spade --- Symbols --- Estate Sale

Description

This large brown/amber stone disk depicts an ancient monk carrying a Shaolin spade. The figure is surrounded by Chinese ideograms which radiate outward from the central figure of the old monk. The back of the disk is completely covered with the ideograms --- all radiating outward from the center of the disk.
This disk represents a poem or story, possibly about the central figure of the monk. The story/poem/ remains to be deciphered.
There are literally hundreds of Chinese characters on the front and back of the disk. These ideographs are not incised but are raised in slight relief from the surface of the disk. This is a large flat stone so the carved characters are well defined. The stone disk is a beautiful translucent amber color when illuminated by light, especially from the back. See last photo.
Keep in mind that there are some color differences in the pictures due to the light/graphic qualities of the camera/flash and individual computer graphics capabilities . . . still a very beautiful piece any way you turn it. In great condition.

This stone disk is approx. 11.75" in diameter and approx.1/4" thick. It weighs approx. 3.5 lbs. It is translucent under light. See photos.
